UN's Refugees Commissioner hails UAE President's role on refugees worldwide

Abu Dhabi, June 25, 2008 (WAM) - United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees praised the noble initiatives of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on helping the refugees worldwide. It reiterated that such continuous support help improve conditions of the refugees, as it curbs their suffering.

In a gratitude message delivered by the international body to Deputy Prime
Minister, Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) HH Sheikh Hamdan bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, on the World Refugee Day, the commissioner referred to the
role of Sheikh Khalifa in alleviating suffering of the refugees, citing the
recent US$10 million donation to the refugees in Syria. It also valued the
efforts of Vice President, Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of
the UAE Armed Forces, in providing needs of refugees.

Saad Akram, a senior official at the commissioner, commended HH Sheikha
Fatima bin Mubarak, for launching a number of initiatives, which provided
care and good living to the female refugees, citing the refugee women fund,
which was launched upon an initiative from Sheikha Fatima.

The commissioner noted that it follows efforts exerted by the RCA under
leadership of Sheikh Hamdan in the regions hard hit by the conflicts, crisis
and calamities, applauding the role of the RCA in this respect. It added
that the RCA is one of the major donors to the efforts of the refugees'
commissioner.
