POLICE START OPERATIONS TO SECURE OBAMA VISIT IN MARCH

Jakarta, Feb 19 (ANTARA) - The national and Jakarta metropolitan police began conducting "the Nusa Tujuh Operations" to secure the planned visit of US President Barack Obama in the middle of March.

"The operations will last until seven days after the visit," Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief Inspector General Wahyono said here on Friday.

He said the police had already prepared security measures for the planned visit of the US president since some time ago, including the number of personnel to be deployed in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

He said the Jakarta police however have not yet known the locations to be visited by President Obama later.

He said the police would watch potential bombing threats during the visit of the US president who once lived in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The Nusa Tujuh Operations include assuring security against potential vices, acting against criminals and assuring area security.

Wahyono said the Jakarta police would deploy all its forces for the operations while the security of President Obama would be under the authority of the Presidential Security Unit who would cooperate with its US counterpart.
