Sanctions vs NKorea should lift nuke concerns without ec isolation.

19/2 Tass 274

MOSCOW, February 19 (Itar-Tass) -- The sanctions should be aimed at
lifting concerns over the North Korean nuclear program rather than the
economic isolation of this country, spokesman for the Russian Foreign
Ministry Andrei Nesterenko said on Friday.

Commenting on the agenda of the Moscow meetings of a group of experts
from UN Security Council's Committee 1718 set up under UN Security Council
Resolution 1874 he noted that the diplomats "visit the countries, which
are participating in the six-way negotiations for the denuclearization of
the Korean Peninsula to exchange opinions on making the fulfillment of the
sanction resolutions of the UN Security Council against North Korea more
efficient." He recalled that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei
Borodavkin had received the experts.
At the consultations the Russian side confirmed "the major aspects of
its position of principle regarding the sanction regime in effect against
Pyongyang and its approach to the settlement of this North Korean nuclear
problem." "It was noted that restrictive measures should be aimed at
lifting concerns of the international community over the North Korean
nuclear program rather than the economic isolation of the country,"
Nesterenko underlined.
