MALAYSIAN GOVT MULLS CCTV AT BORDER PETROL STATIONS

PENGKALAN HULU (Malaysia), Feb 20 ( Bernama ) -- The Malaysian government
plans to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at petrol stations
near the border to monitor fuel sale to foreign vehicles, Deputy Domestic Trade,
Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Tan Lian Hoe.

He said the proposed installation of the CCTVs was aimed at ensuring a more
effective monitoring.

Currently, activities at the petrol stations were monitored by enforcement
officers from the ministry, he told reporters after attending a Chinese New Year
celebration here Saturday.

On Dec 16 last year, the government imposed restrictions on the sale of
diesel and petrol to only 20 litres for foreign vehicles in areas within a 50km
radius from the Malaysian border.

On sugar supply, Tan said there was sufficient supply of the commodity in
the country.

He said stern action would be taken against wholesalers and suppliers for
failing to supply the commodity to supermarkets and other retail outlets.
