RSD VEHICLES TO HAVE SPEED DETECTORS
NILAI (Malaysia), Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Safety Department (RSD) will
be equipping all its vehicles with speed detectors to enable them to identify
the speeds other vehicles are travelling.
Its director-general Suret Singh said the detectors would also be
fitted with laser guns and be used for random operations targetted at speeding
express buses.
"This is part of our efforts to improve safety on Malaysian roads," he told
reporters after supervising an operation to monitor express bus speeds at the
Nilai R&R (southbound) along the North-South Expressway near here Saturday.
He said the department's vehicles with the detectors would tail speeding
express buses and once they have been flagged down, officers in the vehicles
would counsel the bus drivers responsible before the records of their speeding
was relayed to the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board for further action.
In another matter, he said the Malaysian Highway Authority had ordered all
highway concessionaires to provide tow trucks to enable vehicles, including
buses and lorries that broke down on their highways, to be towed away within 20
minutes so as not to pose safety hazards.
