Iranians in Britain mark Islamic revolution anniversary

London, Feb. 20, IRNA - Iranians residing in Britain gathered on Friday to mark the anniversary of the Islamic revolution and exchange views in the Second Conference of Iranians in Britain.

Esfandyar Rahim-Mashaei, deputy chairman of the Supreme Council of Iranians Abroad, said in a televised message to the conference that the Iranian people have been always the “vanguards of the good deeds and virtues while delivering great services to other nations.”

Referring to the ancient history and civilisation of Iran, Rahim-Mashaei said Iranians have played the “greatest role” in founding the Islamic culture and civilisation.

“Justice-seeking, bravery and resistance against the oppression and humiliation are the most fundamental characteristics of the Iranians who have rendered great services throughout the history to people from other lands.”

He denied Western allegations that the Iranian nation is seeking to spread violence and destruction.

“They accuse us of violence while history indicates that Iranians have never sought expansionism. Even when Iranians conquered other places [a long time ago], they did it out of developing culture and transferring science. Wherever Iranians have gone, they have taken culture and civilisation with themselves.”

Highlighting the geostrategic position of Iran in the Middle East and the whole world, Rahim-Mashaei said Iran is definitely the “most important country” in the world which is interested in “boosting peace and stability.”

“We pursue the strategic policy of spreading peace and stability and upgrading interaction with the rest of the world. Today the West and the East are familiar with the strong Iran which has resisted against the arrogant policies of hegemonic powers while seeking independence and self-sufficiency.”

Also speaking among the Iranians living in Britain, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Rasoul Movahhedian underlined the “scientific and technological breakthroughs” of the Iranians in the past three decades.

Movahhedian said the achievements of the Iranians after the 1979 Islamic revolutions are the “source of pride and dignity” for the whole Muslim and non-Muslim world.

“Our development policies are based on knowledge and science and political independence. The impact of such knowledge-based policies have be so great in the past years that Iranian scientists have now mastered different areas of new technology including the nuclear power, aerospace, biotechnology, nanotechnology and dam construction”.

He added that the opposition of the West to Iran’s development is an indication of “the dignity and resolve” of the Iranian people.

The Second Conference of Iranians in Britain was held late on Friday in central London. Several prominent Iranians made speeches and praised the recent achievements of Iranian scientists, which they said, have promoted the regional and international status of the country./end
