ROAD ACCIDENTS CREATED SOME 300,000 ORPHANS

KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysa), Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Road accidents have been
responsible for most of the 300,000 orphans nationwide, Malaysian Orphans
Welfare Organisations (Peyatim) president Dr Tengku Mahmud Mansor said.

"Of the number, 4,000 orphans were placed at 54 orphanages. Only education can
help them change their life," he said at a cheque presentation ceremony here
Sunday.

The Terengganu state government had alloted 30 percent of places to orphans at
two colleges in Setiu near here.

Tengku Mahmud who is also Terengganu Orphans Welfare Organisation (Perkaya)
president said over 500 orphans in the state who received diplomas and degrees
had been employed by government agencies and the private sector.
