Power consumption in Primorye grows by 10 pct in Jan.

VLADIVOSTOK, February 24 (Itar-Tass) - Power consumption in the
Primorsky (maritime) Territory in January grew by more than ten percent as
compared with that in the corresponding period of last year.
The growth tendency has been observed among practically all groups of
users. In particular, the consumption of electric power in industry,
transport, agriculture, and by commercial enterprises grew by 12.1
percent, an official in the press service of the Far Eastern power company
(FEPC), which on Wednesday summed up the results of work in the first
month of the year, has told Itar-Tass.
In the opinion of power engineers, the main increment in power
consumption has been ensured by the start-up of new production plants and
the construction of facilities intended for the 2012 summit of the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. These results indicate
that the downturn in the Territory's economy has been overcome fully, the
FEPC official pointed out.
A marked decline in power consumption was observed in the Far East
last year. The amount of generated electric power was only 19,166 million
kilowatts, or 7.5 percent less than the year before. The decline in power
consumption was felt most strongly in four out of five regions where the
main generating facilities of the area are located: in Khabarovsk and
Primorsky Territories, in the Jewish Autonomous Region, and in the south
of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
