INAUGURAL GLOBAL FESTIVAL TO BOOST ASIAN CHILDREN’S CONTENT INDUSTRY

SINGAPORE, Feb 25 (Bernama) –- Over 400 international authors, publishers,
distributors, institutional buyers, literary agents and multimedia producers of
children's content will gather here for the inaugural Asian Festival of
Children's Content from May 6 to 9.

To be held at The Arts House, this is possibly the first festival of its
kind in the world to focus on Asian children's content, according to the
organisers, The Arts House and National Book Development Council of Singapore,
Wednesday.

The organisers hoped the festival would give a boost to the creation,
production and publication of children's materials with Asian content in all
formats.

The meeting of international industry players was also aimed at improving
the distribution and access of Asian content to children worldwide, the
organisers said, adding the global children's content business, which included
books, games, films and music, was a multi-billion dollar industry.

The festival's advisory board chairperson Claire Chiang said to date, most
people had easy access to and benefited from a wide selection of education and
entertainment content from the West, but they missed the Asian materials because
they were seldom translated and promoted, and were therefore left unexplored.

Several Malaysian writers and publishers will be represented at the
festival, including Daphne Lee, a children's book author, editor, and reviewer
and writer Margaret Lim.

More information on the festival is available at www.afcc.com.sg and those
interested to participate can register via the website from Thursday.
