Russia's trade balance surplus doubles Jan year-on-year.
MOSCOW, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's trade balance surplus in January 2010 was to up 16.1 billion dollars form 7.4 billion dollars in the same month of last year, Deputy Economic Development Minister Andrei Klepach told the media on Thursday.
According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Economic
Development and Trade Russian export in January 2010 was up to 27.8
billion dollars against 17.8 billion dollars in January 2009. Import
remained basically unchanged at 11.7 billion dollars. In January 2009 it
stood at 10.5 billion dollars, Prime-Tass reports.
.Over 200 crimes by Russians abroad were being investigated 2009.
MOSCOW, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian investigators last year
were probing into over 200 cases opened over crimes committed by Russian
citizens in other countries, Deputy Prosecutor-General Alexander
Zvyagintsev told the government-published daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta in an
interview.
According to the official, at the request of other countries
investigations were launched of more than 200 criminal cases against
Russian citizens, who committed acts of wrongdoing outside Russia. Final
decisions have been made on 159 such cases.
The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office cooperates with counterparts
in over 70 countries in such matters as extradition and legal assistance
in handling criminal cases.
"Last year's results showed more active work along these lines. Over
one year the Prosecutor-General's Office dispatched to other countries
2,500 requests for legal assistance being dealt with by our law enforcers.
Another 125 criminal cases were opened against foreign citizens who
committed crimes in our territory and went into hiding in other
countries," he said.
The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office last year considered over
2,200 foreign requests for extradition and 3,200 requests for legal
assistance in criminal cases.
"Sometimes one may have the impression Russia is maltreated and seldom
has anyone extradited. This is not so. Last year we denied the extradition
of nearly 350 people - seven times the number of extraditions denied to
us. Reasons vary. Many countries, including Russia, never extradite its
citizens," Zvyagintsev said.
