Strong earthquake rocks Hokkaido, no casualties reported
Tokyo, June 26 (Itar-Tass) - Strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 points occurred in the area of the Japanese Hokkaido Island that is located close to Russia.
According to the local meteorological department, the epicentre was located near the southeast coast of the island.
The earthquake source was at a depth of 60 kilometres under the ocean bed. The jolt was registered at 08:37, local time (03:37, Moscow time). There have been no reports about damage or casualties. There is no tsunami threat.
