No threat of tsunami to Russian Far East after Chilean quake.

MOSCOW, February 27 (Itar-Tass) --" There is no threat to the Russian
Far East after the Chilean quake," Deputy head of the press and
information department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations
Yelena Chernova told Itar-Tass.

As soon as the news about the quake was broken experts of the
Ministry for Emergency Situations studied corresponding parameters, she
said. "There is no threat to Sakhalin and the entire Russian Far
East," the spokeswoman said.
Nevertheless, a system of tsunami notification that operates in
Sakhalin is in order and permanently maintained on alert. she said. '"In
the event of any threat the population will be notified beforehand," the
spokeswoman said.
Tsunami caused by Saturday's Chilean earth quake is expected to reach
the Kuril Islands by Sunday afternoon, Chief of the Sakhalin-based Tsunami
Center Tatyana Nevelskaya told Itar-Tass earlier.
