A TRULY UNITED MALAYSIA IF PEOPLE EMBRACE 1MALAYSIA VALUES, SAYS NAJIB

PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), Feb 28 (Bernama) -- A truly united Malaysia can only
happen if the people embrace the values contained in the 1Malaysia concept, said
Prime Minister Najib Razak.

He said these were values associated with the mindset of the people to move from
one paradigm to another, with the basic paradigm being tolerance.

"Under the concept of 1Malaysia, being tolerant is just the beginning...the next
paradigm is to move from tolerance to total acceptance. In other words, when we
accept the differences in our society we accept diversity as something unique...
something that provides us with a very colourful tapestry in our society...
something that actually can give us strength and not otherwise," he said at the
Sin Chew Media Group Chinese New Year celebrations at its headquarters, here
Sunday.

Najib said that if there was total acceptance of diversity within the society as
a strength and something unique, then "we move from one level to the next
level".

"And when we move from the paradigm of being tolerant to total acceptance, there
is a final apex which is to celebrate our diversity...when we celebrate our
diversity then it means we have reached the final destination of Bangsa Malaysia
of one Malaysia...it is then we will think and we will act as one people, one
nation and one dream," he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the people of various races in the country had
celebrated festivals, but this was without embracing the values of 1Malaysia.

"Yes in the past we have Chinese New Year gatherings...we had Hari Raya (Eid
Fitri) open house...we have so many functions together but that is celebrating
without embracing the values and the mindset associated with the concept of
1Malaysia.

"So let us move forward to the next level and the next level, so that Malaysia
will be...united, harmonious and prosperous," he said.

Najib said the dreams and aspirations of all Malaysians must be taken seriously
not only in terms of words but also in terms of deeds and action.

"In other words, we have to work for it. We have to galvanise all Malaysians to
love this nation toward a united Malaysia. All must work consciously with a deep
sense of commitment, deep sense of perfection for what is good for us. For what
is good for all Malaysia...we have to strive and we must make it happen," he
said.

He said every prime minister of the country had worked tirelessly in their own
way during their time and some even during difficult times, working towards a
more united Malaysia.

In this context, Najib said he was continuing the good work left by these
former prime ministers.

"But we do need to rationalise what we do...what we need and how do we get this
to get to our destination of being a truly united Malaysia," he said.
