MEDIA MUST HIGHLIGHT ANTI-ABUSE PROGRAMMES TO CREATE AWARENESS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- The Media must highlight more programmes
related to awareness of abuse to educate the public, said Information
Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.

He said that it was not only the responsibility of the government and
private TV stations but the print media, magazines and any other media channels
should also highlight such programmes.

"We will increase more of such programmes. It is about time for newspapers
and other mediums to play a role apart from RTM (Radio Television Malaysia) and
TV3," he told reporters here Sunday night

Rais cited the death of Syafia Humairah Sahari, 3, who was believed to have
been abused by the lover of her mother on Saturday.

He said the people cannot accept such inhuman acts anymore.
