Iranian VP cast doubt on implementation of reform plan

TEHRAN, Mar. 1 (MNA) – Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Reza Mir-Tajeddini said that the administration may decide not to implement the subsidy reform plan if the plan does not meet the administration’s requirements.

“The administration is insistent to have an income of $40 billion from subsidy redirection savings, and if the Majlis passes an income of $20 billion, the administration will face problems, so the administration will decide whether to implement the plan or not,” he told the Mehr News Agency.

The cleric vice president said the administration can not compensate low-income families resulting from the inflationary effects of the subsidy cuts with a $20 billion income, he noted.

On the revision of energy prices for the next year (starting March 21), the former lawmaker said the administration will wait until decision is made about the amount of income from the subsidy redirection savings.
