AUSTRALIA'S CARBON MISSION TARGETS 10 ASEAN PROJECTS
KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Australia's Carbon Mission has target 10
carbon projects worth US$100 million in Asean within 18 months.
Australia's Asean Trade Commissioner for Clean Energy and Environment, Garth
Taylor also said the Australian Trade Commission, which organised the mission,
expects 120 regional companies to participate in the business matching session
during the two-day meeeting in Malaysia, starting Monday.
According to him, carbon projects are typically finance-intensive as even a
small undertaking, would cost between US$2 million-US$3 million.
"This is the first visit by Australia's Carbon Mission to Malaysia. The
mission aims to work with more Malaysian businesses to further develop finance,
technology and service options, for low-emmissions projects," he told reporters
here Monday.
There are 15 Australian companies participating in the Carbon
Mission to Malaysia.
Taylor said about 80 Malaysian companies would be involved in business
networking while another 40 from Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand are being
invited to do so.
He said among the Malaysian companies are those in the energy,
transportation, construction and project management consultancy sectors.
The Carbon Mission is the first offshore activity for the recently formed
Australian Carbon Cluster, a value chain of project-ready companies, focused on
developing sustainable emissions reduction projects offshore.
