MALAYSIA'S 6 PCT GDP ACHIEVABLE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's targeted gross domestic
product (GDP) growth of six per cent for this year is achievable due to the
improving global economic scenario.

Deputy Finance Minister, Awang Adek Husin, said the world and the Malaysian
economy were showing signs of improvement.

"Exports will improve when foreign economies are improving and this will be
translated into stronger demand," he told reporters at the launch of Takaful
Ikhlas Sdn Bhd's new corporate head office here Monday.

He said the recent statistics for the motor vehicle sector were a good
indicator of the improvement of the country's economy.

The Malaysian Automotive Association has announced that the improved market
situation and consumer sentiment had pushed vehicle sales up by 32.8 per cent in
January 2010 to 50,622 units from 38,107 units in January 2009.
