Vientiane expects 800,000 visitors this year
VIENTIANE,MACH 01(KPL) - Vientiane Capital expects some 800,000 tourist arrivals this year, according to a press conference held here last week by Vientiane Tourism Service.
“2009 saw slightly over 711,000 foreign tourists entering Vientiane, lagging behind the 2008’s record by 88,049,” said Head of Vientiane Tourism Service, Mr. Khampadith Khemmanith.
“The decline in the tourist number is attributed due to the global economic recession, the political unrest in Thailand and the spread of A H1N1,” said Mr. Khampadith.
However, the investment in tourism over the last one year has been increased, especially the investment in establishing tour operators and hotels.
The Tourism Service of Vientiane Capital has several projects to improve the tourism environment in Vientiane and these include the improvement of tourist sites of Houai Sone-Houai Soua in Nasaithong district, Houai Talieo in Park Ngum district, Nam Sang-Nam Tone in Sangthong district.
Mr. Khampadith said that the main tourism markets of Vientiane are America, Canada, France, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, China and Vietnam.
