WEF NAMES MALAYSIAN AMONG 197 OUTSTANDING YOUNG LEADERS FOR 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian, Suryani Senja Alias, Senior
Vice-President, Khazanah Research and Investment Strategy, Khazanah Nasional
Bhd, is among 197 outstanding young leaders from around the world honoured by
the World Economic Forum (WEF) this year.

Other winners include Australian Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe; Swiss
tennis star Roger Federer; YouTube co-founder and chief technology officer
Steven Chen (Taiwan); Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, Goodwill Ambassador
for UN Development Fund for Women or UNIFEM; British fashion designer Stella
McCartney; New Zealand Justice Minister Simon Power; South African Member of
Parliament and grandson of Nelson Mendela, Mandla Mandela; BBC World News
presenter Lucy Hockings (New Zealand); Jennifer Woo, Managing Director, Lane
Crawford, Hong Kong; and Jon Favreau, Director of Speechwriting, Office of the
US President.

They were selected for their professional accomplishments, commitment to
society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world, the WEF
said in a statement Wednesday.

Drawn from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates, the Young Global Leaders 2010
were chosen by a selection committee chaired by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of
Jordan and comprised eminent international media leaders.

East Asia had 43 leaders honoured, South Asia 21, Europe 46, Middle East and
North Africa 14, sub-Saharan Africa 17, North America 38, and Latin America 18.
Thirty-eight per cent were women.

The 2010 honourees will become part of the broader Forum of Young Global
Leaders community that currently comprises 660 outstanding individuals. They
will convene at an annual summit which will be held this year in Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania, from May 2 to 7.
