DELHI SPIRITUAL GURU EARNED US$5,339 DAY IN SEX TRADE
By P. Vijian
NEW DELHI, March 4 (Bernama) -- A self-proclaimed Indian spiritual guru, at
the centre of a multi-million ringgit prostitution racket, earned nearly two
lakhs Indian rupees (US$5,339) a day from his clandestine business which he
operated from his temple premises, said police.
The alleged godman, who was a former security guard, masterminded the
sex ring, mainly hiring young students and former air-hostesses.
Over the past 10 years, he was reported to have earned an estimated RM200
million (US$59.32 million).
Delhi police continue to unearth startling evidence after the 39-year-old
suspect was detained last week, and have stumbled on the man's diaries which
contained records of his high-end clients and names of about 500 women involved
in the racket.
"He used to hire girls who wanted to make a quick buck. We found a diary
containing numbers of more than a hundred girls in Dwivedi's south Delhi
temple," H. G. S. Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south Delhi) told the
media.
The suspect, who has a large number of followers across India, including top
bureaucrats and prominent Indian politicians, was said to have embraced
spiritual life since his release from prison where he served time for running
massage parlours and a prostitution syndicate in 1998.
He had even built a temple -- where followers hold prayer meetings and
meditation sessions -- which was equipped with closed-circuit television cameras
and even had a tunnel within its premises.
Police said the suspect used several websites to offer social escort
services in Delhi.
Last Friday, the godman and six young women were arrested in a busy township
area in South Delhi, where he was trying to cut a deal with a group of 'clients'
who turned out to be undercover policemen.
The man, from a farming family in Uttar Pradesh, is facilitating police
investigations into his sex-for-hire empire.
Recently, the fallen guru had built a 200-bed hospital in Chirtakoot, in his
home state.
