Japan, Germany agree on need of aid for Afghanistan-Pakistan border

KYOTO, June 28 Kyodo - Japan and Germany agreed on the need for international assistance to help stabilize the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area and expressed concern over violence in Zimbabwe in foreign ministerial talks on Friday, Japanese Foreign Ministry officials said.

Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura and German Deputy Chancellor and
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met bilaterally on the sidelines of
the Group of Eight foreign ministerial talks in Kyoto.

The foreign ministers from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,
Russia and the United States issued Thursday a special statement on Afghanistan
pledging to implement aid to strengthen the Afghan border against the growth of terrorism.

The officials said Steinmeier also told Komura it is important for the
international community to help Palestinians improve the legal system and capability of their police forces. ==Kyodo
