INDIAN GOVERNMENT OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP FOR DIASPORA CHILDREN
KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- India government is offering a special
scholarship programme for the children of persons of Indian origin (PIOs) and
non-resident Indians (NRIs) to pursue undergraduate professional and general
courses in India of the 2010-11 academic year.
The scholarship is open for undergraduate courses in disciplines including
engineering/architecture/technology, humanities/liberal arts, commerce,
managament in bachelor of business administration/bachelor of business
management, journalism, hotel management, agriculture/animal husbandry,
sciences, and law except for medical and related courses.
An Indian High Commission statement here says the scholarship offers 75 per
cent of the institutional economic cost (IEC) or US$3,600,
whichever is less.
IEC includes tuition fee, hostel fee and other institutional charges.
NRI candidates are eligible for the the scholarship only if their
total family income does not exceed an amount equivalent to US$2,250.
"Children of NRIs should have pursued at least three years of education,
inclusive of 11th and 12th or equivalent, but not beyond in a foreign country
during the last six years, and have passed the qualifying examination abroad,"
it says.
The deadline for applications is Jun e10 and only shortlisted candidates
will be notified. Application forms and more information are available at
