NKorea destroys nuclear reactor's cooling tower

MOSCOW, June 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russia welcomes North Korea's decision to destroy the cooling tower of its nuclear reactor in Yongbyon.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that tangible progress had recently been made as international efforts continued to turn the Korean peninsula into a nuclear-free zone.
"Russia welcomes a declaration on nuclear activities submitted by the North Korean side as well as the destruction of the cooling tower of the nuclear reactor in Yongbyon," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The Russian side highly appreciates a reciprocal decision by the U.S. administration to start excluding North Korea from the list of sponsors of terrorism and cancel the application of the enemy trade bill with regards to North Korea.
"The aforesaid steps have been taken in compliance with measures
agreed by the participants in the talks to implement a joint statement
made on September 19, 2005. They mark a significant progress at the
six-way talks," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
"Russia would like to confirm its readiness to continue playing an
active part in the six-way talks, including the convening in the near
future of a meeting of the heads of the delegations with an aim to clean the Korean peninsula from all nuclear weapons," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
