VLADIVOSTOK, March 10 (Itar-Tass) - Members of the Legislative
Assembly of Russia's Far Eastern Primorsky /Maritime/ territory will watch
labor safety of the North Korean workers on the Russkiy Island near
Vladivostok where amassed construction is underway in the run-up to the
2012 summit meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

The safety conditions for North Korean workers came into focus
Wednesday at a meeting between the Primorsky Legislative Assembly's
speaker, Viktor Gorchakov, and North Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister Kung
Sok-ung.
"The legislators will continue watching unconditional compliance with
Russian and international labor laws at the construction sites on the
Russkiy Island," he said.
Gorchakov recalled the Maritime Territory remains interested in
bringing well-trained workforce to its construction facilities.
He indicated in this last that almost 6,000 workers from North Korea
obtained permits for working in the Primorsky territory last year.
Apart from the territory's Legislative Assembly, the North Korean
delegation also visited the territorial Administration.
As they met with Vladivostok Mayor Igor Pushkaryov, they discussed the
participation of North Korean representatives in the festivities of the
150th anniversary since the founding of the city.
It is already known that florists from the North Korean city of Wonsan
will present Vladivostok on the occasion of the anniversary with unique
seedlings of flowers called Kimilsungia, which are a hybrid cultivar of
orchids derived in 1965 in Indonesia and named after Kim Il Sung, the
founder of the North Korean state.
Another floral present to Vladivostok, Russia's largest city in the
Far-East will be Kimjongilia named after the country's incumbent leader,
Kim Jong Il.
Vladivstok municipality officials have, in their turn, issued an
invitation of Wonsan officials to visit this city for celebrations.
North Korean officials also made known their nation's high interest in
sending performing groups and artistic ensembles to the festivities due in
Vladivostok in the first days of June.
The itinerary of festive functions includes a presentation of
Vladivostok's twin cities, a festival of national cuisines, concerts by
performing groups and a parade of military brass bands.
The Primosky territory is the only region of Russia that has a common
border with North Korea. The specificity of the region's geographic
position predetermines its special role in the development of trade and
cultural relations with North Korea.
Even at the times of economic crisis, trade between the territory and
the neighboring country has increased by a third since 2009 and exceeded $
6 million dollars.
