BERNAMA TO POSITION ITS PORTAL AS PUBLICITY ENGINE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency
(Bernama) wants to better promote its portal, Bernama.com, as a centre for
publicity for the public and private sectors.

Bernama senior manager for media, portal and photo marketing Maznah Khalil
said, while most people might know its role as the national news agency, many
were unaware that it also provided marketing communication and digital media
services.

According to her, Bernama provided marketing communication services which
included publicity, advertising, promotions and stakeholder relations through
Bernama.com.

"Specifically, we offer the tools and means for publicity such as online
advertising, promotional web page, exclusive interviews and special reports,
website development, hosting and maintenance, as well as news and web content
development.

"This is on top of the traditional media network through which Bernama
distributes its news and information products," Maznah said here Wednesday.

She said, exciting developments in web technologies in recent years had
resulted in many organisations turning to digital media for their communication
needs.

"Of course, it also means that Bernama is facing stiff competition, but as
the national news agency with a global media network, we know we have the edge,"
she added.

Maznah said that during the past few years, a number of large public and
private organisations had appointed Bernama.com as their publicity and
promotional specialist.

She disclosed that Bernama's clients included the domestic trade,
cooperative and consumerism ministry, agriculture and agro-based industry
ministry, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Department of Information,
Westports, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Malaysia Airlines, Open University
Malaysia and Takaful Ikhlas.

Bernama is an agency under the information communication and culture
ministry.
