MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT MUST CONTINUE TO BE FULLY COMMITTED IN FIGHTING CORRUPTION

PUTRAJAYA, March 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government must continue to
be fully committed in fighting corruption by improving the administration and
financial system to reduce possibility of corruption.

Anti-Corruption Advisory Board chairman Abdul Hamid Mohamad said a
strong administration and financial system would ensure that Malaysian
Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) receive adequate allocation to conduct its
duty effectively and efficiently.

He said state governments which could not assist should not prevent MACC
from conducting its duty with transparency.

"Non-governmental organisations should contribute positively and
substantively towards improving the performance of MACC.

"Making press statements with incomplete facts will not help MACC in
fighting corruption," he said in a keynote address at the dinner and launch of
'SPRM Aspiration (Aspirasi SPRM)' here Thursday night.

Hamid said individuals and chambers of commerce should give ideas to improve
MACC adding corruption affected everyone, government and opposition leaders
included.

"The best thing to do is don't give and accept bribes and nobody is special.
As long as there are people who think that they are an exception, then we will
not succeed in fighting corruption."

"The stigma that we can do it but MACC has to fight corruption must cease to
exist," he added.
