Kyrzyz-US security cooperation is their sovereign matter - Moscow.
MOSCOW, March 11 (Itar-Tass) - The development of Kyrgyz-US security
cooperation is a sovereign matter of the two countries, Russian Foreign
Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko stated on Thursday, in comments of he
situation around the construction of a U.S. anti-terrorist training center
in Batken at the request of the Kyrgyz leadership.
"The development of the Kyrgyz-US cooperation in the field of security
is a sovereign matter of the two parties. We assume that the varied,
time-tested interaction in the field of combating terrorism between Russia
and Kyrgyzstan, our ally and strategic partner, will continue to develop
both on the bilateral basis, and within the frameworks of the Collective
Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,
with the view of reliable provision of stability and security in Central
Asia, and that it will also contribute to the boosting of Kyrgyzstan's
potential to combat terrorism," Nesterenko said.
At Kyrgyz government's request, the US administration allocated 5.5
million dollars to build an anti-terrorist training center in Batken for
the republic. The center will belong to Kyrgyzstan. It will be used for
training Kyrgyz servicemen and security forces.
The construction of the anti-terrorist center will begin next year.
Kyrgyzstan has accommodated a U.S. air base since December 2001. Last
summer, it was renamed to the center of transit shipment center. Its
functions include the support of the anti-terrorist operation in
Afghanistan, conducted by the international coalition.
