YOUNGER GENERATION SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TRY NEW IDEAS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- The younger generation should be given
the opportunity to try and put forward new ideas especially in the field of arts
including music to ensure a balance of culture in the country.

National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), Norliza Rofli, said
new ideas and works by the younger generation can enhance existing works and
provide variety in the national culture.

"We need to consider renewal in arts not only to ensure that arts do not
disappear but also to come up with new works among the young," she said at a
news conference in conjunction with the musical concert "Space Age" here Friday.

She said the efforts and ideas of the young needed to be understood and
supported so that what they produce can be translated into culture that can be
taken to an international level.

"If we do not understand and do not support them, later they will be
separated from our mainstream culture," she said.

She said by giving oportunity and space it will bring about and entrench
awareness among the young about love for the nation's cultures.

Meanwhile, she said the musical concert "Space Age" will be held from April
28-30.

The presentation which will have a concept of musical expermentation by
encompassing science, music and visual arts will give spectators an unforgetable
experience.

She said the usage of the element of amazement in the presentation was also
expected to produce persons who were more creative, competitive and of quality
in the future.

"JKKN as a driving arts and culture agency stronly supports the presentation
as a new momentum in the creative industry of our country through music," she
said.
