Russia, Japan to tighten joint struggle against poaching.

12/3 Tass 266

TOKYO, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Officials from Russian and Japanese
agencies concerned completed the fifth round of negotiations on the
struggle against poaching and the smuggling of fish and sea products. The
consultations lasted two days in Tokyo, a source in the Japanese Foreign
Ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.

Deputy Chairman of the Federal Fishery Agency Viktor Risovanny headed
the Russian delegation, while Deputy Director General of European Affairs
Bureau at the Japanese Foreign Ministry Nobukatsu Kanehara led the
delegation of his country.
The sides confirmed that the problem is still pressing and the
struggle with poaching and the smuggling of fish and sea products is
practically important for the development of bilateral relations. Since
the previous round of talks in Tokyo in September 2009 the authorities of
the countries have been taking measures for the struggle with fish
poachers and smugglers. The countries agreed that the struggle should be
stepped up involving all agencies concerned and the local authorities.
The date and the venue for the next round of negotiations will be set
through the diplomatic channels.
