NEW DELHI, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and India signed an action
plan for developing atomic energy cooperation on Friday. The plan
envisages construction of 12 nuclear power units in India, chief of the
Rosatom state corporation Sergei Kiriyenko said.
According to him, two out of 12 nuclear power units are being
adjusted, other six power units will be built in the period from 2012
through 2017, and another four power units will be built after 2017.
Alongside, Kiriyenko did not rule out that after 2017 the number of
nuclear power units planned to build may be increased. India may take a
decision to this effect when drafting a corresponding five-year economic
plan.
India will grant to Russia a new site to build a nuclear power plant
after 2017, Kiriyenko said.
"A new site to build a nuclear power plant will be granted during the
13th five-year Indian plan, which will be launched after 2017," he said.
According to him, the construction of the 3rd and 4th power units at
the Kudankulam nuclear power plant will be launched next year under the
contract signed on Friday. "All preparatory works will be completed next
year and the major stage of construction will be launched," Kiriyenko
said, adding that the 5th and 6th power units at the Kudankulam NPP will
be built during the next 12th five-year planned period. Russia and India
are discussing an opportunity to build up to eight power units at the
Kudankulam NPP.
Alongside, two power units will be built at the Haripur nuclear power
plant, Kiriyenko said.
