MOSCOW, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister
Andrei Denisov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Guangya met in Beijing on
Friday to discuss stability and security in Central Asia, the Russian
Foreign Ministry said.

"The sides discussed a broad range of topical international and
regional issues and put the emphasis on the situation in areas bordering
on Russia and China, including stability and security in Central Asia, as
well as the activity of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)," the
ministry said.
The sides signed a plan of foreign ministerial consultations for this
year.
"Our meeting focused on the situation in the CIS space," Denisov told
reporters. "Central Asia, Afghanistan and a number of neighbor countries
pose a special interest to Russia and China."
"We stressed the importance of the suppression of international
terrorism, drug trafficking, transboundary organized crime and other
threats and challenges, which are still plentiful in the region," he said.
"We also discussed how economic cooperation of Russia and China with
regional countries assisted economic stabilization and weakened the
negative effects of external factors and threats, including those coming
from Afghanistan," Denisov said.
