MONGOLIA, IOS PROMOTE COOPERATION

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/. Mongolia's First Deputy Premier N.Altankhuyag has made a working visit to Geneva, Switzerland at the invitation of Francis Gurry, Director General World Intellectual Property Organization.
During the visit, Mr Altankhuyag met with Secretary General of the International Organization for Standardization Mr Rob Steele. At the meeting, the dignitaries exchanged opinions on an international seminar of the IOS to be organized in Mongolia in May this year.
"Over 20 years have passed since Mongolia transited into market economy. However, outdated standards have not been renewed so far and it does not meet international requirement. This situation has been obstructing the socio-economic development of Mongolia. Therefore, the Government of Mongolia is making efforts to make a reform in standardization sector and introduce European standards" Mr. Altankhuyag said. He suggested co-operating in improving standards that are being pursued in Mongolia and renew standards in mining sector.
Mr Rob Steele appreciated Mongolia's suggestion on boosting cooperation in standardization sector and said that the IOS will promote collaboration with the country through Mongolian Standardization Organization. He also said that it gives much importance to an international event that will be held in Mongolia in coming May.
