Int`l ecological forum to open in St Petersburg.

St PETERSBURG, March 17 (Itar-Tass) - Ecological safety is the
highlight of the Big City Ecology 2010 international forum that opens here
Wednesday.
It is held with the assistance from the Russian President's
Plenipotentiary Representative in the Northwest Federal District , the
Federal Agency for Science and Investment /Rosnauka/, industrial
associations and Russia's Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Sources at the Lenexpo Exhibition Center, the forum's main organizer,
have told Itar-Tass the project unites four specialized exhibitions -
Technologies & Equipment for Waste Management, Air Purification, Water
Treatment, and Nature Conservation Services & Equipment.
The list of participants features 152 companies from Russia and
foreign countries, including Austria, Britain, Italy, France, and Sweden.
These companies are known internationally as suppliers of equipment
and services in the field of ecological management.
The forum aims to speed up the resolution of ecological problems most
pressing for Russia and especially its big cities where industrial
facilities polluting the environment are concentrated.
The situation is also aggravated by billions of tons of accumulated
waste. Experts link the complexity of managing the latter to a wide range
of factors, including the inconsistency of the legislative basis, the
absence of the scientifically grounded classification of wastes, and the
necessity of drawing up a feasibility study for each concrete solution.
The organizers believe that the exhibition displays and expansive
business programs of conferences, seminars, roundtables, and public
ecological councils will help find the optimal possible decisions and
generalize the experience accumulated previously.
The R & D presented at the exhibitions will help utilize a
comprehensive approach to reinvigoration of the environment, the treatment
of wastewater and processing of solid waste.
