India`s naval team to undergo training on Nerpa sub in Russia.

NEW DELHI, March 17 (Itar-Tass) - India will send its submarine crew
to Russia to train at the K-152 Nerpa submarine that India's Navy will
soon get for the ten-year lease, according to the Times of India.
"The Indian naval team will be leaving for Russia within 15 days. It
will first undergo intensive training on Nerpa and then bring it to India
on the ten-year lease," the newspaper cites a defence ministry source as
saying on Tuesday.
The fifty-member team, including eight-ten officers, will be deployed
at the naval base near Vladivostok.
India and Russia signed an agreement on the ten-year lease of the
Akula-II class nuclear submarine in January 2004.
According to reports of local media, India's Navy will receive the
submarine already in May.
Nerpa is a nuclear submarine of the third generation. The submarine's
displacement is 12,770 tonnes, maximum speed - 30 knots, bottom low
submersion depth - 600 meters and cruising capacity - 100 days. It has
four 533 mm calibre torpedo systems and four 650 mm calibre torpedo
systems.
