M'SIA & HONG KONG TO INCREASE COOPERATION IN BANKING SECTOR




KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Hong Kong are expected to
expand their cooperation in the banking and financial sector, especially in
Islamic financing.

A statement from the Finance Ministry today said its Minister Ahmad Husni
Hanadzlah Wednesday welcomed Hong Kong's Secretary of Finance, John
Tsang, at a luncheon held in a leading hotel here.

Both the ministers discussed on efforts to expand the level of cooperation
between the two countries in the financing and banking sector, especially
Islamic financing.

Also present at the event were Secretary General of Treasury, Dr Wan Abdul
Aziz Wan Abdullah and Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank) Governor Dr Zeti
Akhtar Aziz.

Others included Chairman of the Securities Commission Zarinah Anwar,
Labuan FSA Director General Azizan Abdul Rahman and the President and
Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Group Wahid Omar.

John Tsang arrived here Tuesday night for a three-day official visit to
Malaysia.
