VIENNA, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia restituted to Austria 11
thousand WW2 trophy archive files with various documents and a
presentation ceremony was held on Thursday in the State Archive of Austria.
"The event is the result of many-year and thorough work by politicians
and experts of both countries, as well as of intensive cooperation between
the state archives of Russia and Austria," Russian Ambassador to Austria
Stanislav Osadchy told Tass.
"The Russian side is ready to continue constructive work with Austrian
partners to reach a fair solution regarding restitution of trophy art in
compliance with Russian legislation. The restitution possibility for other
archive documents is currently being studied by competent Russian
departments," the ambassador said.
The restituted archive documents belonged to private individuals and
repressed political and public organizations and were withdrawn by the
Nazis after 1938 first to Berlin and then to the Czech Republic. Soviet

.Russia sees future Afghanistan as neutral country.
UNITED NATIONS, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia sees future Afghanistan
as a neutral country and hopes the Afghan people will choose such a status
themselves.
"The Afghanis have to decide their future themselves. One of the
possible options is the restoration of neutrality of Afghanistan. The very
history of the country speaks in favor of the option, naturally if the
Afghan people choose it," Russian deputy permanent representative to the
United Nations Konstantin Dolgov told the UN Security Council on Thursday.
He said Taliban and Al-Qaeda remain the main security threats for
Afghanistan and expressed concern over growing casualties among civilians
in the country.
"Taliban and La-Qaeda are the reasons for the negative trend. However
international military forces in Afghanistan have also to take energetic
measures to prevent casualties among civilians," Dolgov said.
Russia supports the processes of political settlement and
reconciliation in Afghanistan. However, "the dialogue is possible only
with those who surrendered arms, recognized the government and the
Constitution of Afghanistan, and severed all ties with Al-Qaeda and other
terrorist organizations," he added.
The strengthening of anti-drug and anti-terrorist security around
Afghanistan will both undermine financing of extremists and promote
sustainable stabilization in Afghanistan and the region in general, Dolgov
said.
"The Russian Federation will continue to mount cooperation with
Afghanistan and with a wide range of international partners in the
interests of successful post-conflict settlement in the country and the
formation of viable state structures, including police and drug-control
bodies," he said.
