Kyrgyzstan values cooperation with OSCE - president

BISHKEK, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - Bishkek values the high level of
cooperation with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and is grateful to this organisation for assistance to democratic transformations in Kyrgyzstan, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said at his meeting with OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb on Tuesday.

Bakiyev said Kyrgyzstan is committed to principles of democratic
reforms.

"Our country is a firm advocate of the democratic path of development.
Political parties and civil society play an active role in putting the
reforms in practice. Special attention is given to the struggle against
corruption, the level of which has been significantly decreased over the
past two years and a half."

The president cited as important aspects of cooperation with the OSCE
the economy, ecology and security.

In the opinion of experts, Afghanistan is a source of destabilisation
of the situation in the region.

Bakiyev assured Stubb that Kyrgyzstan can take an active part in
economic restoration of this state.
"Restoration of Afghanistan is one of factors of consolidating
regional security and stability. I have said more than once during high
level meetings that we have a high potential for taking part in this
process," he said.

The OSCE chief in turn said that Kyrgyzstan had achieved good results
in ensuring the rule of law and human rights.
He called Kyrgyzstan a "flagship" in the region in building an open democratic society and securing the freedom of speech and human rights. He finished his working visit to Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday.
