YUDHOYONO : DEMOCRAT PARTY CONGRESS MUST RUN SMOOTHLY
Jakarta, March 26 (ANTARA) - Democrat Party Advisory Council Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono wants the party's second congress in Bandung, West Java, to run smoothly, orderly, and in a conducive way.
"Prove to the public Democrats are a big political party by conducting an orderly and smooth conference in a conducive way," Democrat Party Secretary General Marzuki Alie quoted Yudhoyono as saying on Friday.
Marzuki said Yudhoyono had given directives to the candidates for party leader to avoid unfair competition during the congress in Bandung.
According to Marzuki, Yudhoyono also asked the candidates to observe ethics and civility in presenting their visions, missions, and programs.
"Candidates for the Democrat Party chairmanship should not damage the party's unity and integrity by cornering each other because it is not ethical to do so," Marzuki quoted Yudhoyono as saying.
Yudhoyono also asked that whoever was elected Democrat Party l chairman should be wise in embracing all other candidates to maintain the unity and integrity of the party.
"Pak Yudhoyono asked that after the congress, all candidates should return to their earlier condition as an integrated unit under the umbrella of the Democrat Party," Marzuki said.
As a good cadre, Marzuki said he would abide by the directives and request of the party's advisory board chairman, including his request to make a declaration after a national coordination meeting (Rakornas) at the Jakarta Fair grounds in Kemayoran on Saturday and Sunday (March 27-28, 2010).
He said various preparations for the congress in Bandung, including the criteria for the chairmanship candidates to be made by the steering committee would be discussed at the Rakornas.
"I still don't know what kind of criteria will be made, but according to the directives from Yudhoyono, the criteria should not hamper the candidates," Marzuki said.
