VP : EFFECTIVE GOVT ONE OF RI DEMOCRACY'S GOALS

Pontianak, West Kalimantan, March 27 (ANTARA) - Vice President Boediono said having an effective government was one of the goals of Indonesia's democratic system.

An effective government resulting from either legislative, regional head or presidential elections must be beneficial to the people, Boediono told West Kalimantan officials here on Friday evening.

He compared a government system to an orchestra playing one song with the musicians each playing his or her instrument according to different rhythms.

Indonesia was currently entering the second experience in the its democratic life, he said.

He hoped that Indonesia could bequeath a better government system to the future generations.

The first experience was in 1962, he said, adding that Indonesia must not make the same mistakes because it would need a long process and high cost to repair the damage.

"The cost will be very high if we have to change the system frequently," he said.

The reform era in Indonesia was not over yet and the transition would take time, he said.

"But, it should not be too long as the people are waiting," he said.

Among the high ranking officials who accompanied Vice President Boediono during his visit to West Kalimantan were State Enterprise Minister Mustafa Abubakar, Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Minister for Least Developed Regions Helmy Faishal Zaini, National Education Minister Muhammad Nuh, Home Affairs Minister Gemawan Fauzi, State Minister for Women's Empowerment and Children Protection Linda Amalia Sari, and Head of the National Family Planning Board Sugiri Syarief.
