INVESTMENT IN WOMEN A WISE DEAL - MALAYSIAN PM'S WIFE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Investment in women to enhance their
participation in the 1Malaysia development stride is a wise deal, said wife of
the Malaysian prime minister, Rosmah Mansor.

She said the investment would give a long-term and continuous return on
equity for the prosperity of the country.

"It is like improving healthcare facilities and welfare, and educational
opportunities and participation, and encouraging women to take part in economic
activities, management and the country's administration.

"I am confident and hope the '1Malaysia Women' will continue to be major
elements in boosting the economy and becoming the pillar of the nation," she
said in a keynote address at the 1Malaysia Women Seminar 2010 with the theme
"Empowering Women Through 1Malaysia" here Saturday.

Rosmah, who is the patron of the seminar, said advancing access to
education, employment opportunities and socio-cultural change among the people
would inspire women to move forward and contribute actively to the country.

Speaking to reporters at the seminar, Women, Family and Community
Development Minister Shahrizat Jalil said the seminar was not only to
discuss the 1Malaysia concept but also on how to optimise women's potentials.

The resolutions passed at the seminar will be submitted to the cabinet, she
added.

Women must change their mindset and inculcate positive spirit if they want
to strive for excellence, she said, adding that, "Women must become
stakeholders... becoming catalyst to changes," she said.

As mothers, she said women must instil positive values among their children
like the spirit of racial unity and help to make the 1Malaysia concept a
success.
