CHINESE NATIONAL NABBED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SMUGGLE DRUGS
PENANG (Malaysia), March 29 (Bernama) -- Police arrested a Chinese national
who tried to smuggle 1.8 kilogrammes of heroin out of the the Bayan Lepas
International Airport here Monday.
Penang deputy police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the 40-something
woman, dressed in a business suit to look professional, was arrested while she
was about to catch a flight to Hong Kong at 6.35am.
He said policemen on duty had the airport had been suspicious about the
abnormal way the woman had carried herself and walked.
"After a thorough inspection, police found the drugs wrapped in plastic
strapped to her body and also in her undergarments," he told reporters here
Monday.
He said the drugs seized had a street value of over RM250,000 (US$76,475)
and that
based on initial investigations, the woman was found to have entered Malaysia
more than five times and usually stayed at a hotel for between three to five
each time she was here.
