JOBLESS INDONESIAN GETS NINE YEARS JAIL, THREE STROKES FOR HOUSEBREAKING
SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), March 29 (Bernama) -- The Sessions Court here Monday
handed down a nine-year jail sentence and three strokes of the rotan on a
jobless Indonesian man after he pleaded guilty to committing housebreaking, last
year.
Judge Hasbi Hasan ordered Anjas Anwar, 31, from Batam Bota, Indonesia to
serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on April 23 last year.
"Let this be a lesson to you to not engage in crimes in the event you are
allowed to work in Malaysia," she admonished Anjas when handing down the
punishment.
The accused, together with two others still large, had broken into the home
of assistant technician Zawawi Mohammad, 50, in Taman Rahmat Jaya Kundang,
Rawang, at about 3.30am on April 23, 2009.
Armed with parangs and a screwdriver, the trio had held up Zawawi and his
family during the break-in but Zawawi retaliated and managed to grab the
screwdriver and stab one of the suspects.
In the ensuing melee, two of the suspects escaped taking along RM300
(US$1=RM3.29), three
handphones and two gold chains worth RM2,500 but the accused was subdued by Wan
Zawawi with the assistance of his son.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin prosecuted.
