MOSCOW, March 30 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Minister of Defence Anatoly
Serdyukov is to hold talks here on Tuesday with Greek National Defence
Minister Evangelos Venizelos, who arrived in Moscow for a working visit
on Monday, Irina Kovalchuk, press secretary of the Russian Defence
Minister, has told Itar-Tass.
"During the meeting the sides intend to discuss matters concerning
bilateral defence and military-technical cooperation," Kovalchuk said. The

An official at the Greek National Defence Ministry told an Itar-Tass
correspondent in Athens earlier that Serdyukov and Venizelos would hold
talks on the entire spectrum of Greek-Russian relations in the field of
defence and security.
The Greek Minister is also to meet with Mikhail Dmitriyev, Director of
the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation, Anatoly
Isaikin, General Director of the Rosoboronexport, and Nikolai Patrushev,
Secreatry of Russia's Security Council.
According to the Greek Defence Ministry information, the sides will
discuss subjects concerning bilateral defence and military cooperation,
relations between the European Union and the Russian Federation (RF),
NATO-RF relations, as well as matters related to military-technical
interaction under interstate agreements that were concluded before October
2009.
The Greek National Defence Minister's visit is being made in
furtherance of the recent visit by Greek Prime Minister Georgios
Papandreou to Moscow, the Greek Ministry official added. Within the
framework of the visit, Venizelos is also to meet with Patriarch Kirill of
Moscow and All Russia.
Greek media reported, for their part, that the Greek National Defence
Minister intends to discuss the acquisition of 420 Russian BMP-3 combat
infantry vehicles to the tune of over 1,200 million euros. A decision to
purchase the Russian combat infantry vehicles was made in December 2008 by
the previous government of Greece. However, no agreement to this effect
has been concluded up to now. Venizelos also expects to discuss the
question of acquiring spare parts, as well as missiles and shells for all
Russian weapon systems Greece has available, including the S-300
anti-aircraft missile system, deployed on the Greek island of Crete.
