AFTER SEX, SWAMIJI SEEKS SPIRITUAL SOLACE

By P. Vijian

NEW DELHI, March 30 (Bernama) -- An Indian spiritual guru, embroiled in a
sex video scandal involving a Tamil film actress, has decided to call it quits
for an indefinite period.

The disgraced godman said he was quitting all posts at his ashram to lead a
secluded life and avoid public glare.

In a statement posted on his mission's website Monday, he said he would
leave the spiritual centre for an indefinite period and allow a new team to
manage the ashram.

"I had candid discussions with leading acharyas (spiritual gurus) and
explained
what is fact and what is fiction. I sought their spiritual and moral support.

"I have decided to lead a life of spiritual seclusion for an indefinite
period
to which the acharyas have agreed in principle.

"Whenever, if required, I will return and talk about all that had happened
as
an independent witness to my conduct with a clean heart and pure soul, and also
in a less prejudiced atmosphere," said the once high-flying guru.

The man, who claims to have nearly two million devotees across the globe,
including Malaysia, was mired in the sex controversy this month, following
leakage of a video footage purportedly showing him in a compromising position
with the popular south Indian actress.

The sensational scandal created a public outcry, leading to fierce street
protests, with disgruntled followers and the public demanding the authorities to
arrest the godman who was headquartered in Bangalore.

However, no action has been taken against the self-styled guru or the
actress.
