ARGENTINE AMBASSADOR TO PROPOSE NEWS EXCHANGE WITH BERNAMA
KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Argentinian Ambassador to Malaysia Maria
Isabel Rendon will propose to her government the possibility of establishing
news exchange and related cooperation between the Argentine National News Agency
(Telam) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
She said, the materialisation of such news exchange would help create better
understanding between the two countries, at least at the news agency level.
"I will propose to the government (for consideration). This (news exchange)
is
quite an interesting area of cooperation," she said after visiting
Bernama's headquarters at Wisma Bernama here Tuesday.
During her hour-long visit, Rendon held discussions with Bernama General
Manager Hasnul Hassan. Also present were Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Domestic News
Services) Zulkefli Salleh.
She also toured the NAM News Network, Bernama Radio24, Bernama TV and the
news agency's Editorial Department.
Telam, which operates as a state enterprise, was founded in 1945. It
provides news and information to about 300 subscribers, including government
entities and national and international media.
Bernama is one of the country’s leading content providers of
up-to-the-minute news reports, updates and analysis for newspapers, tv and radio
stations, global wire services and the Internet.
Besides its wire services, Bernama also operates a 24-hour television news
channel (Bernama TV on Astro Channel 502) and a 24-hour news radio station
(Bernama Radio 24).
Rendon said, although geographically, Argentina and Malaysia were far from
one another, that was not an obstacle to forging cooperation for mutual benefit
in any field.
"We have to try all the paths at our disposal to get closer," she said,
adding that the media was a very important factor in a civil society to convey
the message of the people.
