HOUSE TO QUESTION POLICE CHIEF ON FISCAL SCANDAL

Jakarta, Mar 30 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission III (legal affairs) is to invite National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri soon to explain the police's follow-up steps to solve the suspected fiscal court brokering case involving a tax official and some ranking police officers.

"We are going to invite the National Police chief to explain what the police have done or are doing to tackle the fiscal court brokering case," involving directorate general of taxes employee Gayus Tambunan who is reported to have fled to Singapore, a House Commission III member, Yani, said here Tuesday.

Yani made the statement after he and other Commission III members had met former National Police chief detective Susno Duadji who came to the parliament to request the legislature's protection after having made public disclosures of the suspected involvement of a number of senior police officers in Gayus's case.

The National Police chief would be invited for a working meeting with the commission after the House' recess period was over in early April, he said.

The commission would ask for the police chief's clarifications specifically what the police had done or were doing to follow up Susno Duadji's public statements about the suspected complicity of ranking police officers in the Gayus Tambunan case.

"From Mr Susno Duadji's statements we conclude that no follow-up steps have been taken yet by the police while he (Susno), of all persons, had already been named a suspect for defaming the ranking police officers involved," Yani said.

Susno Duadji arrived at the House Commission III meeting room accompanied by a lawyer at about 12.30 Western Indonesia time to hand in a letter requesting protection as a witness.
