NEW COMPOSITION OF TAVAN TOLGOI DEPOSIT'S WORKING GROUP
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Irregular cabinet meeting held Friday decided to approve a new composition of the working group on making an agreement with investors to exploit the Tavan tolgoi coal deposit and to work out a draft contract. In accordance with the decision, the group will be chaired by the Minister of Minerals and Energy. The Ministers of Finance, and of Environment and Tourism will work in the group as deputy heads. The other included are heads of Ministers' departments and other officials.
Exploiting the Tavan tolgoi deposit is to make great contribution to solving many issues and to open opportunities to establish factories of extraction, enrichment and washing, to construct railways, auto roads and new sources of water supply and energy, to sell products, improve skills of border checkpoints, use sea ports abroad, and to manufacture value-added products.
The coal deposit of Tavan tolgoi is one of the deposits that are identified properly. Technical and economic preliminary basis of the deposit have been done several times. According to internationally-accepted method of determining size of reserve, the deposit's reserve may increase. It is possible to exract 15-30 tons of coal a year depending on transportation and water supply.
The Mongolian side will discuss soon with the investors issues of ways on ensuring the power supply at the first stage of construction and at key stage of extraction, on capability of power stations to be erected, on terms of investment and financing.
One of the our country's purposes is to develop the production of value-added products based on the Tavan tolgoi deposit, and to establish a coal washing factory and expand its capability and to found a coke mill together with foreign investors.
The working group and the "Erdenes MGL" company have placed together all information about the deposit's geological research, mountain and technical conditions, reserves, infrastructure, preliminary evaluation of techniques and economics and others in a unified data. Furthermore, open discussions have been held with a participation of geological and mining scholars, researchers and local representatives in Ulaanbaatar and in Dalanzadgad soum, Omnogobi aimag.
