HOUSEWIFE ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO SMUGGLE IN METAMPHETAMINE
Batam, Apr 5 (ANTARA) - Batam customs and excise officers arrested FC (41), a housewife, who was trying to smuggle metamphetamine worth Rp7 billion from Malaysia into Batam, a source said.
"The suspect tried to smuggle in 3,504 grams of metamphetamine," an officer from the Batam customs and excise office, Heru Setioko, said here on Monday.
Heru explained FC who had arrived in Batam on Monday at 8.30 a.m. using a regular ship from Stulang Laut, Johor Baru, brought the metamphetamine inside her travel bag.
"An officer at the x-ray checkpoint suspected something wrong inside the woman's travel bag. When checking the content of the bag, the officer found five plastic packs containing white crystal powder," he said.
Heru added the Batam customs and excise office would hand over the case to the Riau Islands police. FC would be charged under the Anti Drug Law No 5/1997.
