MAGNITUDE 6.3 QUAKE HITS N SULAWESI
Manado, Apr 5 (ANTARA) - A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck the northern parts of Indonesia's Sulawesi island on Monday evening,
causing panic to local residents.
The local meteorology, climatology and geophysics office said in a statement the quake which occurred at 06.05 p.m. was centered 191 km southwest of Bitung town in North Sulawesi province at a depth of 10 km but it did not trigger a tsunami warning.
The temblor was strongly felt in the North Sulawesi provincial capital Manado, prompting local people to rush outdoors, an ANTARA journalist observed.
"We rushed outdoors to avoid any eventualities that may befall our family," Jemmy, a local resident, said.
