RF, Slovakia leaders to state inadmissibility to falsify history.
MOSCOW, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Slovakia intend to state the
inadmissibility of falsifying history, and reaffirm commitment to efforts
towards fashioning an atmosphere of friendship and deideologised
cooperation in Europe.
These principles are to be recorded in a Joint Statement of the
presidents of the two countries, Dmitry Medvedev and Ivan Gasparovic. The
Statement is to be adopted as a result of a two-day official visit by the
Russian Head of State to Slovakia. The visit begins on Tuesday.
Russian presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said, "The commonality of
the positions of Russia and Slovakia on the question of preventing
falsification and morbid politisation of history acquires special
importance within the context of the 65th anniversary of the Victory over
nazism". Prikhodko has pointed out that the Russian leader's visit is
timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the liberation of
Bratislava by the Red Army.
The presidential aide said Medvedev would arrive in the Slovak capital
on Tuesday evening at the close of working meetings in Moscow. Planned for
Tuesday is only an official welcoming ceremony -- an integral Protocol
event of an official visit -- to be followed by a dinner to be given on
behalf of the President of Slovakia.
On Wednesday, Medvedev together with the Slovak leadership will attend
a ceremonial meeting, due to take place on Mount Slavin, with the laying
of wreaths at the memorial to Soviet servicemen. About 7,000 Soviet
soldiers from among an aggregate number of over 60,000 Red Army men, who
died in fighting in the Slovak territory, lie buried there. The ceremonies
will be followed by a festive concert to be given by the Alexandrov
Academic Ensemble of the Russian Army.
On the same day the two Heads of State will present State awards to a
group of Russian and Slovak war veterans who participated in battles for
the liberation of Slovakia. Medvedev is also planning to hand over to
Gasparovic the copies of Russian archival materials about the joint battle
of the peoples of Russia and Slovakia against nazism.
The programme for the Russian leader's visit to Bratislava also
provides for talks with President Gasparovic, Prime Minister Robert Fico,
and National Council Speaker Pavol Paska.
On Wednesday, upon completing the visit programme, Medvedev is to
leave Bratislava by air for Prague, where he will meet with US President
Barack Obama on Thursday and where a ceremony is to be held to sign a new
treaty between the Russian Federation and the United States on measures
for strategic offensive reductions.
.Slovakia regards RF president's visit as symbolic.
BRATISLAVA, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - Slovakia regards Russian President
Dmitry Medvedev's forthcoming participation in the celebration of the 65th
anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava as particularly symbolic.
The Russian leader arrives in the republic on Tuesday for a two-day
visit, during which he will pay a tribute of memory to the Soviet
servicemen the liberators and to Slovaks who fought against fascists.
"It is utterly significant that the Russian Head of State will be with
us during the festivities on the occasion of the liberation of the
capital," Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated.
Everything is ready in Bratislava to receive a Russian delegation.
Enhanced security measures have been taken in places where ceremonies with
Medvedev's participation will be held.
The Slovak hosts have prepared a diverse menu of dishes of national
cuisine for Medvedev and persons who will accompany him. Local dishes are
rightfully reckoned among the region's best ones.
